Hehem, so yeah feeling a bit like a moron now…

I got my canister working, the problem seems to have been in the valves… Anyway I’m not going to mess with it anymore for the time being. Probably when I move I’ll get new valves and hoses for it that way I won’t have this problem again.

Until then however it looks like I’ve got the filter under control.

When I got my new 32 gal tank I did have a few issues with the canister filter. The water just seems to dribble out of the spray bar. I figured that it’s just because I’ve got too much media in it but I didn’t want to disturb it till after the tetra safestard had finished working. So that tank has been running for a little more then two weeks now. It is planted and the only fish in the tank were Red my RTS and Oscar. Both less then 4 inches long. I started the tank with tetra safestart and everyone was looking very happy.

Well I went home over reading week and when I came back Oscar was floating dead at the top of the tank. I don’t know how long he was there and I don’t know how he died but he must have been there for a few days. I opened up the tank and it just STUNK! I almost gagged on the smell as I fished poor Oscar out to send to the porcline graveyard. I did a 50% water change but it’s been two days and the smell on only now starting to go.

I think that the problem is with the canister filter so I added a home-made filter (mature filter floss wrapped around an airstone and put in an upside down terricotta pot) the smell seems to have started going since. So I’ll do a water test later tonight and go from there.

The moral of this tale is that since I don’t have the $$$ for a new canister I’ve been looking into other options. It’s hard to use any other type of filter since this tank was designed to work around a canister filter. Which means I’ve been looking into DIY options. I’ll make a DIY page to start liking some idea’s up to.

I have defeated the evil FTP monster and now at long last have some theme’s to work with! (Sorry Mike apparently the one filt was full of lots nad lots of blank stuff. If I can’t get it working I’ll delete it.) Well I’ve got a few pages drafted up now and will slowly be writing them up and adding them to the site. Also I have just today put the finishing touches on how I want this whole thing to work. There will be a bit of tinkering and I’ll have to drag out the CSS how to torent and see if I can figure out how to do a bit of coding and get it all the way I want.

I love this theme! There is another one that I really like as well called fog but unfortunatly it looks as though the various boxes ect don’t line up properly. There are a few others as well but I really really like this new layout. What do you guys think?

Should have grabbed those two 33 gals when I had the chance. Someone else grabbed them out from under me. Oh well. I’ll go pawn shop hopping on the weekend see if I can’t find something there. No more 2 for 1 deals on kijiji at the moment. I suppose I’ll have to keep looking…

Well I can’t say I started my fish keeping off on the right foot, and to my shame while my RTS is in a larger tank then he had originally, a 10 gal is not ideal. So now, armed with “Santa’s” blessing I’ve begun my search for the elusive 36″ tank (minimum length:p).

My first stop of course is Kijiji. I love kijiji, I spend hours on kijiji. What did I find? Well there was a nice deal, 40 gal tank, came with absolutly everything including a hospital tank… Not bad right? Wrong, they’re on the other side of the province and I don’t have a car…  So after a few weeks of searching I finally stumble acorss an ad that’s both local and a not bad deal. 2 33 gal tanks, come with everything and all the fish accessories that the guy has. Price? $500… though that would probably cover just the filters alone. I’m in. I’ve been all excited planning away for these precious beauties. And then as always… I find another ad.

A 46 gal, stand and accesores $350. A 48 gal corner tank with stand and acessories $500. So now I’m left with the question… what do I do. These new tanks are bigger, and in one case cheaper… The first is a 2 for 1 deal… I’ll have to think on it I suppose. Though I’d like to have the 2 33 gals. I suppose I’ll have to wait and see.

The great tank hunt will continue…
